Take Your Lovely Labyrinth Walk
Set the purpose and intention of the walk:
The purpose of the walk is what you have identified as your intention at this time. The intention of this walk is the force of your commitment to pursue that purpose. Even before entering the labyrinth, the subconscious mind seems to initiate a healing program as soon as the purpose and intention are set. Perhaps your purpose is to simply take this time of precious solitude for yourself, to relax and just be. It may be a particular goal, or the seeking of an answer, or simply a walk.
The labyrinth is a metaphysical dojo. Standing at the Gate of the Labyrinth (also called the Door or Mouth), mentally and/or physically bow to the space. This simple salute focuses your attention and serves quite nicely as a sign to your deeper creative mind that you are moving out of ordinary time and space into the sacred, as sacred is for you at this time.
Journeying In Toward the Center:
Traveling, at your own pace, release all that needs to be let go of at this moment……concerns of the day, tensions……gently let them go and simply be here, now, in this moment…..on this Path…allow yourself to totally let go, knowing that you do not have to think about where you are going because this Path can only take you to the Center. There are no decisions to make. Put yourself on autopilot and walk……..
If there is an issue you have brought into the Labyrinth, allow yourself to shed all preconceived ideas about its solution or resolution….loosen the mental cords you may have put around the problem before…….create a space within yourself of openness to receive a new and better solution or information. Keep walking.
Peace at the Center:
There is a natural tendency for one’s heart to spontaneously open when we come to rest at the center of the labyrinth. Pause at the center of the labyrinth. Allow yourself to be refreshed here. This center is a still and mighty place, a thin place where all the worlds of self and Spirit meet. It is the place where we are able to easily practice what St. Benedict describes as “listening with the ear of your heart.”
In the quiet of your mind and heart, receive what it is that wants to reveal itself to you now. It may be an image, a memory, a thought, an emotion, a feeling in your body. When you have received what you need, thank Spirit and your inner Creative Mind.
Returning to the Surface:
When you are ready, begin the Journey of return and reuniting with the outer world. It is the same path by which you came into the center, but it is a more tranquil, perhaps transformed you who now walks back to the everyday world. Inner transformation of you and your situation has been set upon the path of manifestation. As you walk this path of renewal, allow your Creative Mind to integrate the new information into the you who will emerge at the entrance to daily life. What will you bring back from Your Center into the Waiting World?
Closing the Circuit (for now):
As you come around the final circuit of the labyrinth, allow the sense of the outer world to grow stronger. Notice how your conscious mind becomes more alert, looking forward in time, returning to the sense of every day time and space. When you reach the entrance, again turn toward the labyrinth, gently bow, and offer thanks.
